The Order of Christian Initiation for Children

Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

Luke 18:15-17

The Order of Christian Initiation for Children is designed for children under the age of 18 who are unbaptized but have not reached their majority yet, or who are baptized but uncatechized in the Catholic faith. They, along with their parents and godparents, seek to deepen their faith through preparing for the Sacraments of Christian Initiation.

Children who are candidates for the OCIC program are those who, for whatever reason, are not ready to join their peers of the same age in Youth Formation. These students are those who would require catechesis that their classmates have already received by virtue of having been in Youth Formation regularly. OCIC students, once they have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Communion, are then encouraged to join into Youth Formation with their classmates and continue on through regular Youth Formation toward their Confirmation as a whole group.

OCIC classes follow the schedule of Youth Formation, but meetings occur more often throughout the course of the year in order for students to receive the proper level of catechesis needed to integrate into our Youth Formation program after. If you believe your child is a candidate for OCIC, please fill out the information form below!
